Today we finally have our summer sunshine back.  We have been dropping fruit to 1 cluster per shoot.  The vines can only produce so much energy to ripen the fruit.  We have gone the quality route rather than the quantity route to ensure that the fruit picked during harvest is as ripe as possible.

It is getting to be busy in the cellar!  We did some trial blends for the 2009 Pinot Noirs which are still in barrel.  By the end of September most of those Pinots will be blended, bottled and labelled in preparation of bringing in the 2010 crop!

Verasion is a very important time in the life cycle of the fruit, this is when the grapes soften and take on their color, the sugar levels within the fruit will start growing more rapidly at this point.  We are 75-100% of the way through verasion after this last weekends warmth and sunshine.  Just that much closer to harvest!  At this rate we are looking to start harvesting around mid-October.  It usually takes about 45 days from the onset of verasion until harvest time, this is a rough estimate.  Take a look at some of the pictures of the grapes going through verasion.

If you haven't heard already... A total solar eclipse is taking place over Oregon on August 21st!!

Expert eclipse meteorologist Jay Anderson says on his essential website eclipsophile.com that the Willamette Valley offers a very good chance of sunshine on eclipse day. Partnered with beautiful scenery and a glass of wine, there really isn't a better way to watch this rare event!

Please BYO picnic blanket or lawn chair and join us on our events lawn for an optimal viewing experience! We'll be providing catered breakfast and coffee, for those traditionalists, as well as pouring wine (it is Rosé season after all!). Your ticket gets you a spot on the lawn, eclipse viewing glasses, breakfast, coffee, and a goodie bag to commemorate the day - a bottle of YVV red, white, or rosé and a special Oregon Eclipse Riedel glass with the date of the event on it for the first 50 ticket holders.

Totality will be at approximately 10:18am, but the lead up to the total eclipse is worth the watch! Please arrive early to snag a spot, enjoy some breakfast, and take in this rare and totally awesome event!

Cheers!!
