Today we finally have our summer sunshine back.  We have been dropping fruit to 1 cluster per shoot.  The vines can only produce so much energy to ripen the fruit.  We have gone the quality route rather than the quantity route to ensure that the fruit picked during harvest is as ripe as possible.

It is getting to be busy in the cellar!  We did some trial blends for the 2009 Pinot Noirs which are still in barrel.  By the end of September most of those Pinots will be blended, bottled and labelled in preparation of bringing in the 2010 crop!

Verasion is a very important time in the life cycle of the fruit, this is when the grapes soften and take on their color, the sugar levels within the fruit will start growing more rapidly at this point.  We are 75-100% of the way through verasion after this last weekends warmth and sunshine.  Just that much closer to harvest!  At this rate we are looking to start harvesting around mid-October.  It usually takes about 45 days from the onset of verasion until harvest time, this is a rough estimate.  Take a look at some of the pictures of the grapes going through verasion.
