Sustainable Practices

Here at Yamhill Valley Vineyards, we deeply value the health of our ecosystem and the Earth.  We see ourselves as stewards of the land and protectors of the waterways, continually evolving our faming practices to reflect and align with our commitment to sustainability.

Planted in 1983, our vineyard is now home to well-established vines that are naturally more resilient and better able to thrive through the wide range of weather conditions we experience. This maturity allows us to farm with less intervention and more intention.

While we do not carry formal certifications, many of our practices go beyond the standards of organic, Salmon Safe, and LIVE certification programs.  We abhor and reject the use of systemic herbicides that can ravage soils of their biodiversity, pollute water ways, and contribute to broken and unhealthy food systems.  We understand that healthy soil is living soil - teeming with activity and biodiversity that acts to galvanize and protect the immune systems and overall health and vitality of our vines.

Our sustainability efforts extend beyond the vineyard. Socially we converse with and educate our customers about these issues, as well as the ways that climate change impacts our opportunities and future.  We believe in spreading knowledge and inspiring action rooted in hope for the future.   Since 2019, we’ve partnered with Willamette Riverkeeper to do our part in raising funds and awareness to support excellent water quality, and an abundant natural habitat surrounding our beloved Willamette River.

Economically, we make intentional choices to reflect our values.  We bottle our wines using Eco-Glass™, a lightweight bottle that uses 25% less glass than standard wine bottles.  It’s made locally – cutting down on shipping emissions – and its lighter weight means lower carbon emissions during transport.

Join us in enjoying beautifully grown and made wines that support a model of agriculture and business that prioritizes ecological sustainability. Let’s raise a glass to a more resilient future.

Cheers!
